Everything you need to know before you go live.
Do I need to keep my computer on while streaming? ▲
No. StreamKite streams entirely from our cloud servers. Once you hit Go Live in your dashboard, you can close your laptop, turn off your computer, even go to sleep — your YouTube stream stays live 24/7 without you. That's the core difference between StreamKite and desktop software like OBS.
What happens if my stream disconnects or crashes? ▼
StreamKite includes automatic crash recovery. If the connection to YouTube is interrupted for any reason — network hiccup, YouTube maintenance, anything — StreamKite detects it within seconds and automatically reconnects and resumes your stream. No action needed from you.
Where do I find my YouTube stream key? ▼
Go to studio.youtube.com → click the camera icon top-right → Go Live → select Stream → under Stream Settings you'll see your Stream Key. Click the eye icon to reveal it and the copy button to copy it. You can also create a persistent key or a one-time key.
Which RTMP server URL do I use for YouTube? ▼
The primary YouTube RTMP ingest URL is rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2. This is what you paste into the "RTMP Server URL" field in your StreamKite slot. Your stream key goes in the separate key field. Do not combine them into a single URL.
Can I stream the same video to multiple YouTube channels? ▼
Yes! With StreamKite you can create multiple slots, each with a different YouTube stream key. For example, Slot 1 streams to Channel A, Slot 2 streams to Channel B, and so on. You can run as many parallel YouTube Live streams as your plan allows — all simultaneously from the cloud.
What video formats does StreamKite support for YouTube streaming? ▼
We support all major formats: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, and more. For best results with YouTube, we recommend H.264-encoded MP4 files at 1080p or 4K with AAC audio. StreamKite transcodes your video to meet YouTube's exact ingest specifications automatically.
Is my YouTube stream key safe with StreamKite? ▼
Absolutely. Your stream key is stored with AES-256 encryption at rest on our private infrastructure. It is never logged, never displayed in full after entry, and never shared with any third party. It is only used by StreamKite's streaming engine to authenticate with YouTube's RTMP server on your behalf.
Why isn't my YouTube stream starting even though the slot shows Live? ▼
The most common causes are: (1) your YouTube channel doesn't have live streaming enabled yet — visit youtube.com/features to check; (2) your stream key has expired or been regenerated — grab a fresh one from YouTube Studio; (3) your YouTube account may require phone verification for live streaming. Check your YouTube Studio dashboard for any error notices.
