Step 01
Open Instagram Live Producer
Instagram Live can be initiated via the Instagram app → Your Story → Live, or through Instagram's Creator Studio / Meta Business Suite on desktop. For RTMP streaming, open the live creation screen and look for the "Use streaming software" option to reveal your stream key.

Instagram's RTMP Live feature requires a Creator or Business account. Personal accounts may have limited access to streaming software options. Make sure your account has live streaming enabled — check your account settings under Creator Tools.
Step 02
Copy Your Instagram Stream Key
Once you select "Streaming Software", Instagram shows you your Server URL and Stream Key. Copy the stream key — it's a long token that lets StreamKite push video directly to your Instagram Live.

Instagram stream keys expire when your live session ends. For persistent 24/7 streaming, use the Persistent Stream Key option available in Meta Business Suite → Live → Settings. StreamKite stores your key encrypted — it's never visible or logged after entry.

Instagram uses Meta's RTMPS infrastructure. The exact server number (01, 02, etc.) may vary — use whichever URL Instagram provides when you create your live stream. StreamKite handles the secure TLS connection automatically. Always use rtmps:// not rtmp://.

Alternatively, use Meta Business Suite (business.facebook.com) → Live → Create Live Video → Use streaming software. This shows the same credentials on desktop.
What RTMP server URL does Instagram use? ▼
Instagram uses Meta's secure RTMPS infrastructure. The server URL format is rtmps://edgetee-upload-XX.facebook.com/rtmp/ where XX is a number that Instagram assigns. Always use the exact URL Instagram gives you — it may be 01, 02, or another number. Enter it exactly in your StreamKite slot's Server URL field. Your stream key goes in the separate key field.
Why does Instagram require a Creator or Business account for RTMP? ▼
Instagram restricts RTMP live streaming (using external software) to Creator and Business accounts as a platform policy. Personal accounts can only go live directly from the Instagram app using their phone camera. To use StreamKite with Instagram, you'll need to convert your account to Creator or Business — both are free and take about 30 seconds in your Instagram settings.
Should I stream vertical (9:16) or horizontal (16:9) to Instagram? ▼
Instagram Live is optimized for vertical (9:16) format — the full-screen portrait orientation that fills a phone screen. This gives the most immersive experience for mobile viewers. You can stream horizontal (16:9) but Instagram will letterbox it with black bars on the sides. StreamKite supports both — just upload a vertical video file for the best Instagram Live experience.
My Instagram stream key expired — what do I do? ▼
Instagram stream keys expire when a live session ends. For continuous 24/7 streaming, look for the Persistent Stream Key feature in Meta Business Suite (not always available in all regions). If not available, you'll need to generate a new key before each streaming session and update it in your StreamKite slot. StreamKite makes this quick — just paste the new key and hit Go Live again.
What format should my video be for Instagram Live? ▼
For Instagram Live, use H.264 encoded MP4 in 9:16 vertical aspect ratio at 720×1280 or 1080×1920 pixels. Frame rate should be 30fps. Keep your video bitrate under 4,000 kbps (2,500–3,500 kbps recommended).
